Don't sign anything from out-of-state crews
Storm-chaser crews door-knocking after Tampa storms is a common pattern. We don't do that.
Types of Storm Damage
What Tampa storms typically do.
Wind damage
Visible: missing shingles. Hidden: lifted shingle bonds, broken seal strips.
Hail damage
Bruising, granule loss, cracked shingles. Often invisible to untrained eyes. The kind insurers underpay most.
Wind-driven rain damage
Storm wind drives rain horizontally into otherwise-sound roofs. Common in named-storm events.
Debris impact damage
Falling branches and projectiles. Common around mature tree canopy areas like Hyde Park, Seminole Heights, Carrollwood.
Granule loss from impact
Storm-driven granule displacement accelerates shingle aging. Usually claimable when storm-driven.
Flashing displacement
Wind moves chimney, skylight, and wall flashing. Causes leaks weeks later.
The Hail Damage Problem
Hail damage is the #1 thing adjusters miss in Tampa.
Florida sees less hail than the Midwest, so adjusters here have less hail-spotting practice. Bruising on shingles can look subtle but causes accelerated failure.
We chalk-test for hail. We mark hits clearly. We make sure your adjuster sees what we see.
Adjuster Meeting Prep
What to expect, what to ask.
- The adjuster will walk the roof, take their own photos, and write a scope. We walk it with them. Pointing out everything that should be in the claim.
- Ask: “Are you using ACV or RCV?” The answer changes your settlement significantly.
- Ask: “Is this the only inspection, or will I get a follow-up after the report?” You usually have one shot to get items added.
- Don’t accept “cosmetic only” for hail damage. Cosmetic hail damage today often means accelerated shingle failure within 2–3 years.
- Ask for the report in writing. Compare to our documentation before the settlement is finalized.
“After Hurricane Milton, I screened several local companies and if you want a team of knowledgeable high-achievers, call Roof-X. Manager Graham kept my experience stress-free, explaining my options, and kept me updated on each step and timeline. The team replaced my shingles and did some repair on my 2-story house in just one day.”
