The reflectivity bounces heat back while shingles absorb it. Metal's thermal emittance and emissivity means it can absorb and release heat within the environment.

Since asphalt is installed directly onto the wooden beams, the trapped heat often has no space to escape. However, the batten roofs of metal paneling provide a gap between the roof and ceiling for cooler air to circulate.

Metal roofs are recyclable and more environmentally friendly than the fiberglass and asphalt shingles that often end up in landfills.
